Get to Know Janyre:
Janyre Tromp has worked in the CBA industry for more than twenty years, spending time in both marketing and editorial. Currently she is an editor for Kregel Publications by day and a writer (represented by William K. Jensen Literary Agency) at night. And that all happens from her kitchen table when she’s not hanging out with her husband, two kids, two troublesome cats, and slightly eccentric Shetland sheepdog. In case you’re wondering, you pronounce that first name Jan-air . . . kind of like the stove, but not like the book. She’s a graduate of Taylor University and lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
She will be co-teaching a breakout session, and taking 15-minute appointments.
Self-Editing: Becoming Your Own Most Helpful Critic:
With Janyre Tromp & Joel Armstrong
Always get a second pair of eyes on your writing. It’s an excellent rule of thumb, but how do you edit your own work to make it the best you can before sharing it with others? Janyre Tromp and Joel Armstrong are both in-house editors who also write (and edit) their own books. In this session, learn how to see your writing with fresh eyes, evaluate your structure and approach with your readers’ needs in mind, and “kill your darlings” when your pet anecdotes, talking points, or weasel words are getting in the way of clear, concise writing.
Acquisitions Editor - Kregel Publications
Kregel Publications acquires broadly in nonfiction and fiction. We’re especially interested in nonfiction titles that tackle contemporary issues using strong scriptural support, as well as new takes on perennial topics like women’s issues, marriage, and parenting. Kregel is always looking for excellent historical romance, contemporary suspense, historical fiction, and women’s fiction with biblical grounding. Please no poetry, scripts, or straight memoir. One sheets, proposals, and synopses are helpful but not necessary. First-time authors welcome.
