Get To Know Janet
Janet McHenry is an award-winning author of 27 traditionally published books, including the following genres: Christian living, Bible studies, devotionals, gift books, and fiction for children and adults. Three of those were on bestseller lists: PrayerWalk, Praying Personalities, and 50 Life Lessons for Grads. With a journalism degree from Berkeley, she formerly worked as a newspaper reporter and editor. However, she says she learned to write books at Christian writers conferences and has become an expert at helping others understand writing form and create structure for any kind of writing. Janet is a former educator, writing coach, book editor, creator of the Teachable course Prayer School, and host of the Sierra Valley Writers Retreat. She and her husband, Craig, a cattle rancher, live in the Sierra Valley in northern California, where they raised their four kids. She serves as the prayer ministries director at The Bridge Church in Reno and on the California leadership team for the National Day of Prayer. Besides kayaking on mountain lakes in the Sierra with her husband, Janet’s favorite thing is watching lightbulbs go on in writers’ eyes.

Planning & Writing a Bible Study

This breakout session will teach you how to plan and design an entire book and write carefully crafted devotions that meet audience felt need. Teachings will cover overall pacing for varied devotional types (31 days, 90 days, etc.), creative titling, Bible reference choices, structure of the devotional reading, prayer construction, and application end-options.
Create a Successful Media Kit for Podcast (and Other Media) Interviews
Author Janet McHenry landed over 100 podcast, radio, and TV interviews over a two-year period relating to the release of two of her books on prayer. Part of her pitch for those interviewers included a well-designed media kit that provided essential information they would need to introduce her, speak knowledgeably about her books, and ask interesting questions that would appeal to their audience. In this workshop Janet will provide two models for creating a successful one-sheet, along with other tips to help with those queries.
