When God says Go… we can answer with Whoa… Slow… No—or we can simply Go!
Sometimes it’s hard to discern God’s will, to figure out exactly what he wants us to do in each situation. We often function as if we have all the time in the world to obey him, but in the last two years, events have shown us that time waits for no one.
There is no such thing as postponing a decision with God. We simply obey or disobey. The choice is faith or disbelief.
Four years ago, I knew God was calling me to write, but I had no idea where to begin. I called a friend (the only published author I knew). She enthusiastically urged me to leave North Pole, Alaska, and journey to Grand Rapids, Michigan. I became just as excited as she was, until she said the conference began in three days.
I recalled a scripture: “The Lord said to Abram, Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you…I will bless you…and you will be a blessing.” Genesis 12:1-2
At that moment I felt like Abram. It did not make sense. It did not seem possible—but I trusted God’s voice and knew the only step was “GO.”
Like Abram, I packed up everything and journeyed to the land called Promise (Speak Up Conference). From the time the doors opened, I knew my “Go” was met with God’s blessings.
- I met strangers who became like family.
- I was provided with opportunities that were life changing.
- God returned everything I sacrificed financially to make this journey with an act of kindness.
Someone I had never met before handed me a check that covered my expenses. With the check came a note, with the prayer that this gift would increase my husband’s faith. There is no way this person and her husband could have known the impact of their obedience. This experience not only changed my life, but it encouraged my husband to trust God more, too.
Obedience is faith-in-motion.
The blessing is not yet seen, but God never calls without purpose and plan.
Obedience to God leads us to the best plan.
Make plans for your life, but leave room for God to order your steps (Proverbs 16:9)
Obedience to God will bring a life of abundance.
Our lives often cycle through times of hardship. The enemy seeks to kill, steal, and destroy, but Jesus came to bring salvation, a hope-filled future, and an abundant, satisfying life. (John 10:10)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for Abram’s example of simple obedience. How challenging it must have been for him to leave everything to follow your command! Yet he did it.
Thank you, Father, that we can trust your call in our lives. Help us to be sensitive to your voice and faithful to follow.
Help me, Lord, to be like Abram. When your word to me is clear, give me the courage to move forward. Give me faith to obey, even when it’s scary, and even when traditional wisdom says otherwise. Help me to bravely act in obedience to you, so that you will be glorified through my life. Amen.
Question: How can you obey the Lord today? What specific action do you believe God wants you to take in simple obedience to Him?
